President Bola Tinubu has approved the renaming of the completed Institute of Petroleum Studies in Kaduna to the General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua University of Geological Sciences and Engineering Technology.

Tinubu announced the decision on Friday during his Democracy Day address, saying the move was in recognition of the late General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua’s contributions to Nigeria’s democratic development and transition to civilian rule.

According to the President, the honour forms part of efforts to recognise individuals who played significant roles in shaping the country’s democratic journey.

He described the late Yar’Adua as one of the key figures in Nigeria’s democratic evolution whose vision and commitment to national unity helped advance the cause of democracy.

Tinubu also disclosed that more than 30 democracy advocates and June 12 figures would be honoured for their contributions to the struggle for democratic governance.

The President said the list includes posthumous honours for Dr Arthur Nwankwo and Ben Charles-Obi, adding that the full list of recipients would be made public in the coming days.
