Leaders, stakeholders and residents of Enugu East Senatorial Zone on Saturday endorsed President Bola Tinubu and Governor Peter Mbah for a second term in office ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The endorsement was made during the “Ofu Obi Rally for Tinubu and Mbah” held at Okpara Square in Enugu, where participants also donated N300 million in support of Governor Mbah’s re-election bid.
The senatorial zone, which comprises Enugu East, Enugu North, Enugu South, Isi-Uzo, Nkanu East and Nkanu West Local Government Areas, unanimously adopted Tinubu as its preferred presidential candidate and Mbah as its sole governorship candidate for the 2027 polls.
Speaking at the rally, former Senate President, Senator Ken Nnamani, described Mbah as a visionary leader with the capacity to deliver on his promises. He commended the governor’s investments in education, particularly the Smart Green Schools initiative, and urged residents to continue supporting his administration.
Former Governor of old Anambra State, Senator Jim Nwobodo, also threw his weight behind Mbah, insisting that the governor deserved another term to consolidate the achievements recorded since assuming office.
The Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, said members of the State Executive Council and political appointees remained united in their support for the governor, expressing confidence that Enugu would witness greater development under his leadership.
On behalf of members of the House of Representatives from the zone, Nnolim Nnaji said the endorsement was based on performance, good governance and transformational leadership rather than personal affiliations.
He urged eligible voters to register and obtain their Permanent Voter Cards ahead of the 2027 elections.
Earlier, Chairman of the Central Planning Committee, Chief Okey Ogbodo, called on party faithful and stakeholders to remain united and committed to ensuring victory for both Tinubu and Mbah at the polls.
Responding, Governor Mbah thanked the people of Enugu East Senatorial Zone for the endorsement, describing it as a strong vote of confidence in his administration.
He said his government came into office with a clear vision to transform Enugu State and create opportunities for future generations, noting that significant progress had already been made in education, healthcare, transportation and infrastructure development.
The governor highlighted achievements such as the establishment of Smart Green Schools, reforms in the healthcare sector, the introduction of CNG buses and the upgrade of public infrastructure across the state.
Mbah also announced plans to commence a free school feeding programme in public schools from September 2026.
He expressed appreciation for the support shown by the people and urged them to sustain the momentum as the state prepares for the 2027 general elections.
The rally featured colourful cultural displays from the various local government areas in the senatorial district.
