Alex Otti has disclosed that construction of the proposed Umuahia Stadium City will commence before the end of the year.
The governor made this known on Sunday while hosting Samuel Chukwueze, the Super Eagles winger and Abia-born international football star, at the Government House in Umuahia.
Chukwueze, who visited alongside some friends, was at the Government House to appreciate the governor for his support and presence during the burial of his late mother.
Speaking during the visit, Otti revealed that the state government had already secured land for the project and was currently carrying out feasibility studies ahead of commencement.
According to him, the project goes beyond the construction of a conventional stadium and is designed as a comprehensive sports and leisure hub.
“We expect to flag off the construction of the new Umuahia Stadium before the end of the year. The land has already been acquired, and feasibility studies are ongoing.
“It is not just a stadium project. It is a Stadium City that will feature hotels, residential estates and other facilities that will stimulate development in that corridor,” the governor said.
Otti also encouraged Abia indigenes to take advantage of emerging investment opportunities in the state, assuring them that the government would prioritise local investors.
The governor commended Chukwueze for his accomplishments on the international stage and praised him for projecting a positive image of Abia State through football.
