Senator Francis Fadahunsi, who currently represents Osun East Senatorial District, has secured the senatorial ticket of the All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Fadahunsi, who chairs the Senate Committee on Industry, was first elected into the Senate in 2019 under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party and retained his seat in 2023 on the same platform. However, in 2025, he defected to the APC alongside four other PDP lawmakers.
Announcing the result of the primary election on Tuesday, the chairman of the Osun APC Primary Election Committee, Mr Bayo Ayo, disclosed that Fadahunsi polled 23,593 votes to defeat his rivals, Famurewa Isreal and Thomas Ogungbangbe, who scored 472 and 806 votes respectively.
In Osun Central Senatorial District, the sitting senator, Olubiyi Fadeyi, failed to secure the party’s ticket after losing to Adekunle Adegoke (SAN).
Adegoke emerged victorious with 26,655 votes, while Fadeyi garnered 13,138 votes. Other contenders in the race included Yomi Ogunwale, who scored 2,925 votes, Akintunde Adegboye with 342 votes, and Olu Fakeye, who got 67 votes.
Meanwhile, in Osun West Senatorial District, insurance expert, Dr Akin Ogunbiyi, clinched the APC ticket after polling 30,568 votes. His closest rival, Gafar Akintayo, recorded 1,215 votes, while Peter Ogundeji, who had earlier withdrawn from the race, received 14 votes.
Reacting to the exercise, the Osun APC leadership commended members of the party for the peaceful conduct of the primaries across the state.
In a statement issued by the party’s spokesperson, Kola Olabisi, the APC urged all aspirants and their supporters to remain calm and avoid actions or statements capable of causing division within the party.
The party also advised aggrieved aspirants to explore the constitutional channels available for resolving disputes, while praising contestants for displaying sportsmanship throughout the exercise.
According to the statement, the successful conduct of the National Assembly primaries showed that the party and the people of Osun State were the true winners of the process.
