Former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kebbi State ahead of the 2027 general elections after being affirmed as the party’s consensus aspirant.
Malami made this known in a statement issued on Sunday through his Special Assistant on Media, Mohammed Bello Doka, where he also announced the party’s senatorial candidates for the state.
The former minister, who recently dumped the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the ADC, expressed appreciation to party leaders and supporters for the confidence reposed in him ahead of the 2027 elections.
“I sincerely appreciate the confidence and support shown by leaders, stakeholders, and supporters of the African Democratic Congress in Kebbi State ahead of the 2027 general elections,” Malami stated.
He explained that consultations and internal discussions within the party resulted in the emergence of consensus candidates for major elective positions in the state.
According to the statement, Malami was affirmed as the ADC governorship candidate for Kebbi State, while retired Major General Aminu Bande emerged as the party’s senatorial candidate for Kebbi Central.
The ADC also named retired Deputy Comptroller General Ibrahim Muhammad Mera as its candidate for Kebbi North Senatorial District and Garba Danjuma Limi for Kebbi South.
Malami said the party remained committed to providing purposeful leadership, good governance, justice, security and sustainable development for the people of Kebbi State and Nigeria at large.
He added that unity and determination would be crucial in building a more prosperous future for coming generations.
Malami emerged unopposed during the ADC governorship primary and is expected to challenge incumbent Governor Nasir Idris of the APC in the 2027 governorship election.
His emergence comes amid rising political tension in Kebbi State following weeks of verbal exchanges between both political camps over issues bordering on insecurity, governance and corruption ahead of the polls.
Since declaring his governorship ambition under the ADC, Malami has repeatedly criticised the Kebbi State Government over insecurity and economic hardship, while the administration of Governor Idris has accused him of poor leadership and political opportunism during his tenure as Attorney-General under former President Muhammadu Buhari.
