The campaign organisation of Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the August 15 Osun State governorship election, has announced a donation of N1 million to the overall best graduating student of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomosho, Oladepo Caleb Olugbenga.
Oladepo, an indigene of Ijimoba in Ejigbo Local Government Area of Osun State, emerged as the top graduate at the university’s 18th convocation ceremony with an outstanding CGPA of 4.89 out of 5.0. He graduated from the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, finishing as the overall best graduating engineering student.
The donation was disclosed in a statement issued in Osogbo by the Chairman of the Media Committee of the Ambo Campaign Organisation, Mr. Remi Omowaiye, who said the gesture was in appreciation of Oladepo’s dedication to his studies.
Omowaiye stated that Oyebamiji was elated by the report of the academic feat, noting that by openly acknowledging the role of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) in his success, Oladepo has demonstrated that Nigerian youths can overcome challenges with the right support.
“The Ambo Campaign Organisation commends Oladepo for coming out in flying colours despite having to struggle with a lot of distractions,” the statement read.
It added that Oyebamiji commended the graduate and expressed readiness to continue supporting youths in Osun State to excel in areas of their interest, regardless of the cost.
“On behalf of the campaign organisation, we are making a donation of N1 million to Oladepo. We are also assuring youths in the state of our resolve to always provide the needed assistance for them to excel.
“We also commend Oladepo for coming out to state how the availability of NELFUND assisted him in financing his studies. That alone is a validation of the tremendous impact the initiative introduced by the administration of President Bola Tinubu is having on Nigeria’s educational system.”
Beyond the recognition, Oladepo’s achievement reflects a journey shaped by resilience. He grew up in a rural community with limited access to basic amenities, spending years without electricity and relying on lanterns and candles for study. Despite financial constraints, he attended public schools, often walking long distances, while his parents worked multiple jobs to support the family.
Earlier, Oladepo had taken to X (formerly Twitter) to express his gratitude, writing, “I’m honoured to let you know that I am the Best Graduating Student of LAUTECH. Your loans made it possible.”
His post has since drawn widespread attention, with many praising both his academic excellence and his acknowledgment of the student loan scheme.
