Nonye Soludo has commended nurses across Nigeria for their immense contributions to the healthcare sector, describing them as compassionate professionals whose services go beyond medical care to offering hope and comfort to patients.

Soludo, founder of the Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo initiative, stated this in a message issued on Tuesday to mark the 2026 International Nurses Day celebrated globally on May 12.

She described nurses as unsung heroes whose dedication, sacrifice, and resilience continue to strengthen healthcare delivery while supporting families and communities.

The Anambra First Lady congratulated nurses on the occasion and encouraged them to remain steadfast in their commitment to quality healthcare services.

This year’s International Nurses Day is themed, “Our Nurses, Our Future – Empowered Nurses Save Lives.”

According to Soludo, nurses remain at the heart of healthcare delivery through their compassion, patience, and professionalism.

“Today, we celebrate the unsung heroes whose compassion and dignity speak louder than words — our nurses,” she stated.

“Behind every recovering patient is a dedicated nurse who stayed awake through the night, offered reassurance in moments of fear and anxiety, and gave care with patience, strength, and love.”

She noted that the role of nurses extends beyond administering treatment, stressing that they provide emotional support, hope, and humanity within the healthcare system.

“Their service goes beyond medicine; they bring hope, comfort, and humanity to healthcare and our society,” she added.

Soludo further praised nurses in Anambra State and across Nigeria for their continued sacrifice and unwavering commitment to saving lives.

“On this International Nurses Day, I honour the dedication, sacrifice, and resilience of nurses in Anambra State and beyond,” she said.

“Your commitment continues to save lives, strengthen families, and uphold the dignity of our communities every single day.”

She added, “Thank you for all you do. The world is healthier, kinder, and safer because of you. Happy International Nurses Day!”

International Nurses Day is observed annually to celebrate the contributions of nurses to healthcare systems worldwide and to advocate stronger investment in the nursing profession and healthcare delivery.
